About Me (a poem)

I would like
to write
an e-mail for you
that is 
the best
e-mail 
you’ve ever read -
the one that makes you go,
man! i’m glad e-mail exists.
that’s just who I am as a person,
unfortunately.
but also not unfortunately -
as I think this quality
has led to some fun
twists and turns
in my life.
anyway
extra credit assignments!
if you would like to know something about me,
dear reader,
it’s that I was the kind of kid
who loved extra credit assignments
because you never knew
when you might need some
extra points 
on a rainy day.
once in a job interview,
I was asked if I had a life motto
(I was 23 years old at the time)
and I told them:
luck is when opportunity meets preparation.
I don’t know where exactly
I’m going with this.
I guess it’s mostly that
I don’t expect you to read this.
This is an extra credit assignment:
for me to write, for you to read.
but if you
are like me
then you always do
the extra credit
when you have the capacity,
so that’s how I know,
I’m talking to you now.
